Charlie Chaplin: DJ Roll Call (RZACD027)

Culled from the early 90’s, Chaplin’s ras output.  I’m not Dancehall’s biggest fan I have to say, particularly current stuff, but the good especially the older stuff is really worth checking out, and this , of that genre, is about as good as you get.

This also incudes some live dancehall which captures a vibe over some old riddims, fresh and entertaining.  There is a mix of old and new riddims, some execellent vocalising, great instrumentalisation, conscious lyrics which is appealing against a backdrop of slackness in this arena, some humour, there are almost samples and nuances, and superb artistry.  There is Blues and Gospel

Not  a bad track, surprisingly I loved this.

Charlie Chaplin: DJ Roll Call (RZACD027)

Format: CD album
Released: Jan 16 2006
Price: £9.99

Charlie Chaplin rose to prominence in the early '80s during the first years of the dancehall era. He embraced the modern dancehall rhythms, but - unlike many of his fellow DJs of the late '70s and early '80s - he focused on cultural lyrics instead of slack subject matter. Chaplin demonstrates his seamless lyrical flow and witty sensibilities throughout this disc which draws together the very best of his output from the '90s with producer Doctor Dread. DJ Roll Call is an example of an inspirational artist at his very best!!
