Conya Doss – Just Because

 http://www.domerecords.co.uk/system/index.html

Following on from her debut ‘Poem’ set and in a different order from the US set.  Just Because is lounge culture and just about danceable, as upbeat as you get but a nice groove.  here we go again for me is better, much stronger vocally, huskier yet haunting and a track that I really like.  Stay is relaxed, mellow jazzier and vibey.

Sixth Of June (Miracle) is again a different vibe, acoustic and sweeter lyric, personal lyric I would suggest.  On damn that the vocals return to where I like them best, that kind of strained style, bit more R’n’B on here with a call and response chorus.

Two more variances, Missing You is a bit messier and I’m not really feeling this one. day by day is different again but I kinda prefer this, again I think it is because the vocal is stronger as it meanders in and out over and under the chorus and funky guitar.

ain't givin up is the track picked up for the Dome Soul Lounge promo compilation, and you can see why, mellow sophisticated, great vocals and a purely sophisticated soul cut.

Just as a lot of albums start to wane at this point, this one kicks on with What Should I Do? is another favourite, great groove and the Wind and wonderful ballad duet with Chris McNeal. Concluding with a gospel tinged Sweet Love (i don't know Why)

A strong album and several very good tracks here we go, what should I do and Wind, doing it for me.
