Horace Andy: Natty Dread A Weh She Want (TJCCD320)

It was this album that first made me take notic e of Horace Andy, and it still stands the test of timefrom that beautful organic sound of Ragamuffin, and the masterful Natty Dread that I remember so well rocking out the dancehalls and Carnival 1978 0r 1979 I can’t remember which.

As a result I checked Horace Andy before and followed him after but nothing touched this, and whilst I always wanted his unique voice to be amongst my favourites it never did quite make it.  So what did this have that did it, it was either the sound of a particular minute in time, or the wonderful (another favourite of mine) Tapper Zukie production, or both.

Fabulous stuff

Horace Andy: Natty Dread A Weh She Want (TJCCD320)

Format: CD album
Released: Jun 19 2006
Price: £12.49

By 1978, Tapper Zukie was at his creative peak as a producer, issuing some of the most memorable Roots music of the era. Horace Andy, meanwhile, was at the height of his popularity in Jamaica, his distinctive tenor having graced numerous hits for the likes of Coxsone Dodd, Phil Pratt and Bunny Lee. Unsurprisingly then, the combination of Andy and Zukie produced one of the greatest Roots collections of all time - Natty Dread A Weh She Want. Now, for the first time ever, the album is issued on CD, with an additional 8 bonus tracks augmenting the original selection.
