JACKIE MITTOO: Jah Rock Style: The Anthology (TJCCD302)
Don’t let the
opening track put you off, as it nearly did me, we’re talking here of Rockers
style mid to late 70’s reggae, on the edge of dub, with relaxed yet energenitic
grooves. All the usual, though at
that time embryonic electronic gimmickry, gives the whole thing a great vibe,
though it’s a bit unusual to have this style of organ taking the lead. Against the backdrop of effects the
organ sounds positively middle of the road because its not a stabbing punchy
organ but its easy and melodic.
A Rocking sensation
cuts a pace, but things get positively better on The Avenger and the
Penetrator. Self produced up to track 8 with Standing Ovation being a favourite
For the rest we stay
at Dynamic (in the main) but with Bunny lee at the controls. The vibe is
similar but there is a change in style or production on the organ, its
alltogether harder, funkier and better, more upfront. Channel One Crash ,
earthquake and In Cold Blood being the picks.
