Jimmy Barnes: Soul Deeper - Live At The Basement

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and that’s about the biggest accolade I can give this.  Instrumentally the band is professionaland tight and sound pretty good, but despite hearts being in the right place, this kind odf thing bugs me that it just ends up being a parody of the real thing.

Material wise it is all well known Soul Classics but what is the point of copying it down to the facial expressions of the real artists or copying the track to the nth degree all the vocal stylings, without adding just a semblance of originaility.  Sorry not for me, and I don’t know what it’s like in Australia but this kind if thing is 10 a penny over here. Fraid that after a gutwrenching track 4 I couldn’t go any further.

Review

The Basement in Sydney is ground central for jazz and blues in the harbour city. For one night only Jimmy Barnes brought his soul revue into this hallowed room and frankly tore it apart. It doesn't get any more live than Jimmy Barnes at the Basement performing songs from the platinum-selling album 'Soul Deeper'. Includes bonus Documentary 'Jimmy Barnes - Songs from the Deep South' an interview with Doug Mulray and much much more!
