Junior Delgado: Sons
Of Slaves (TJACD288)
The first half of
this album being 70’s roots reggae at its finest, the latter half was recorded
in 1988.
The first track,
Time Unlimited’s Africa we are going home, is an absolute stone cold anthem,
infectious riddim, wild vocals and hypnotic anthemic chorus, a rasta anthem. But ot doesn’t let up Run Baldhead is
equally as good, this time Rupie Edwards produced (as against lee Perry on the
opening cut)
Sons of Slaves the
title track in all its 12” glory, and apart from the excellent lyric is also
great vocally. Raiders is a great steppers track.
He later tracks do
not quite have the vitality of the earlier tracks, production methods had
changed and the productions had less depth and feel, that said they were still
as good as anything else that was around.
After his untimely
death only last year this is a great showcase of the rebel artist and roots
legend.
