Product Info

This collection highlights the best of Bob Marley & the Wailers’ pre-Island Reggae sides, along with a number of later rare recordings, cut during the mid to late seventies. While the set primarily highlights the ground-breaking recordings made with the enigmatic Lee Perry during the early seventies, it also features the best-known early works of Wailers’ founder member, Peter Tosh, including his first solo hits, ‘Maga Dog’ and ‘Them A Fe Get A Beaten’.

Review: - Nicely packaged 60 tracker of Marley’s pre Island material. Some may say yet another mid priced repackaging of Marley stuff, and yes it is but it still hits home.

Particularly so on CD1 here the earliest at 1969 to 1979 so it is Marley coming into his own time, and pre absolute big time legendary status. This first CD is mellow and soulful, easy and spiritual, nice.  Also a number of Peter Tosh outings, all interspersed by some big name cuts.

CD2 takes us into probably more familiar sound and more towards that style that transformed him onto the worldwide stage. …and also contains the wonderful Dreamland with Bunny, the best vocalist of the three, taking centre stage .

CD3 has another half a dozen Peter Tosh tracks including his first solo hits, and some earlier versions of some trademark classics.

Still great stuff I have to say.
