Earth Wind &
Fire – Illumination

From the funky disco beats of ‘Love’s Dance’ and ‘Lovely People’
featuring Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas) and the soaring soulful vocals of ‘Pure
Gold’ to the
groove-filled floor filler ‘This Is How I Feel’ featuring vocals from Kelly
Rowland (Destiny’s Child) and Sleepy Brown, and rapping from Big Boi (Outkast)
–
ILLUMINATION is a masterpiece of modern R&B, soul, funk, disco & fusion
which has ultimately re-realised the original vision of Philip Bailey and
Maurice White.
ILLUMINATION includes the bonus track “The Way You Move” by Kenny
G, also featured on Kenny G’s album.
Review
A great album showing where Soul Music should be today and whilst
using a band that at one point in their history were the biggest thing on the
planet, this is an album of now, and features many current top artists.
Initially I thought it was a bit sparse but after a few plays it
really grows on you and there is barely a bad track on there. Show me the way
featuring Raphael Saadiq is 7 minutes pplus of wonderment. Love together another rof Raphael’s is
funkier, beatier. Pass you by is a
Rapael Saadiq slow jam. Work it
Out is old skool but more akin to Sly and the Family Stone than EWF.
The one is produced by Organized Noise which is more contemporary
R’n’B, pounding beat, laid down vocals until the lead kicks in. very much a track for today and it
really works. Elevated fetaures the wonderful Floetry, and they lay down their
stamp of Urban Rap and Neo Soul.
This is how I feel features Sleepy Brown Big Boi and kelly
rowland, another Organised Noise, and as you will probably therefore appreciate
is very today’s Urban, but the unmistakeable EWF harmonies add to it which
together with the horns give it a funky beat.
Different style again on Vikter Duplaix’s Liberation, which again
works, very percussive, harmonic and chilled. Love’s Dance is a Jam and Lewis production, a track that
wills set Modern Soul danncefloors alight. Back to the contemporary with Will I
am of the Peas on Lovely People.
There’s a bonus track around of The Way You move featuring Kenny
g, which really is just the riff and chorus of The Way you move.
